Keto Snacks

There are so many reasons why keto is a great diet, and lack of hunger is one of them.

Yet no one is immune from the odd craving, especially when you’re somewhere with limited keto options.

Snacking can also ensure that you hit the macros you need to when your main meal just isn’t cutting it.

We’ve broken snacks down into three separate categories:

High Protein Keto Snacks

Most high protein keto snacks also contain a moderate to high amount of fat, so as with anything, make sure that you read your labels, particularly on any protein bars that you might choose.

Snacking is a great way to make sure that you get that all-important protein into your diet when you’re falling short.

#1 Jerky

Jerky is a great on-the-go snack that is available almost everywhere.

It’s high in protein and relatively high in fat as well.

Make sure that you’re getting a brand that doesn’t have any further added ingredients that might bring the carb content up.

#2 Hard Boiled Eggs

Another keto favorite, having a stock of hard boiled eggs readily available is an easy way to curb a hunger craving.

They can also be added to almost any meal for an added protein boost.

#3 Peanut Butter

One of the great things about the keto diet is that you get to eat peanut butter!

It’s high in protein and in fat, depending on what brand you go for.

Remember that you don’t want any with added sugar, and if you are trying to lose weight, a whole jar at once probably isn’t the best idea.

Nuts also contain carbs so read the label to make sure you’re not over doing it!

#4 Sardines

These little fish are a great, filling protein packed snack.

The best news?

Zero carbs!

Again, checking the label is everything, but if you need an added fat boost on top of the healthy fat that these provide, get ones that have been canned in olive oil.

#5 Lettuce Wraps

Take your favorite meat and wrap it in some lettuce.

A high-protein, keto-friendly, healthy snack.

You can even add some spices and a little olive oil for an added flavor boost.

High Fat Keto Snacks!

A lot of keto snacks are high in fat, which is what makes them so tasty!

Fat is an important part of the keto diet, as it’s what helps keep those carb cravings away.

If you are feeling hungry, going for a high fat snack is the best way to alleviate it.

Choose fats that are natural and healthy, and always be aware of the calorie count that comes with them if you are trying to lose weight.

#6 Nuts

Pecans, macadamia nuts, and almonds are the best high fat nuts for the keto diet.

They are a great tasty snack to keep about your person for when the cravings hit!

Some other nuts, such as cashews and pecans, have a high carb count, so if you are eating these, make sure that you portion them out correctly to fit with your macros.

#7 Cheese

Cheddar cheese and string cheese have a high protein content as well as fat, making them a great on the go snack.

If you are looking for a higher fat content however, something like cream cheese and mascarpone are great, especially when in combination with some veggies or meat.

#8 Dark Chocolate

Yes, you can still be keto and eat chocolate.

You just have to be careful about what type.

There are several different keto-friendly brands on the market today, with artificial sweetener.

Many are over 80% cocoa, but this makes a small square enough to curb the cravings.

#9 Pork Rinds

Pork rinds are an amazing snack for when you want a bag of chips.

Crunchy and salty, they are high in fat and low in carbs.

The best variety has the fewest ingredients, with no unhealthy oils added.

Instead of reaching for the pretzels, grab some of these.

#10 Avocado

Avocado is full of the healthiest type of fat.

Whether it’s guacamole or avocado slices, this is a great snack that will stave off the cravings.

It’s lower in protein, so if you are just looking to up your fat intake, then this is the snack for you.

#11 Olives

Plain olives, without any added oils or flavoring, make for a tasty high fat keto snack.

They also have a good amount of fiber, which it’s important to get enough of.

Low carb and low protein, a handful of these are both tasty and healthy.

#12 Pepperoni

This is an easy to-go snack that is amazing when paired with some cheese for that pepperoni pizza feeling.

Pepperoni is a processed meat, and so do have added extra ingredients, meaning that this high-fat snack should be kept to a minimum.

If you can resist them.

Low Calorie Keto Snacks!

Many start the keto diet as a way to lose weight, and it really does work!

Part of this however is making sure that while you’re chowing down on bacon and cheese, you’re still counting calories.

A lot of keto snacks can be high calorie, which is part of what makes them so tasty.

The less calories you eat on keto the more fat you will burn.

These are some low calorie options if you’re trying to lose weight on keto:

#13 Veggie Sticks

Broccoli, zucchini, and celery are all on the list of keto-friendly vegetables, so snacking on these is a great low-calorie way of curbing your cravings.

You can also dip them in peanut butter or guac, but not too much!

#14 Seaweed

Seaweed is an amazing, salty, crunchy snack that will make you think that you’re eating a bag of chips.

It is super low calorie and tastes like the sea – what more can you ask for?

#15 Sugar-Free Popsicles

Curb those sweet cravings with sugar-free popsicles.

These should still be eaten sparingly as the store-bought ones can have a lot of added ingredients, but you can also make your own!

Low calorie equals zero guilt, and they won’t knock you out of ketosis!

#16 Kale Chips

These can be made in your oven at home and are a great chip alternative.

Dose them with salt and pepper (or a sprinkling of paprika) and you’ll have a low calorie keto friendly chip, with an undercurrent of the delicate flavor of kale.

#17 Tea And Coffee

Not really a snack I know, but when you’re starting out on keto, you’ll still be craving things that just aren’t on the menu.

Try a variety of herbal teas, or coffee with a touch of heavy cream to curb the hunger until a proper mealtime.

Tasty and low calorie, it might be just what you need.
